 My Top 5 Favourite Horror Genres


A list perfect for the spooky season that's just around the corner. It's got everything from the genre to the best of that genre. 

1. Psychological Horror

This is my favourite genre, its a perfect combination of horror and sometimes comedy. I find the best psychological horror directors are ex-comedy writers, e.g, Jordan Peele (I love his film Us). I recommend Better The Devil You Know on YouTube as well as The Sound also on YouTube.


2. True Horror

True horror is a mixture of psychological horror and cosmic horror. I recommend Portrait of God, Double Vision, Other Side of the Box all found on YouTube. I recommend the Conjuring and The Exorcist as classic true horror films. 

3. Found Footage 

Easily one of the most creepy horror genres, it sucks you in and really connects you to the horror. If you ever feel like making a horror short film, then this may be the perfect genre for you! I recommend LOST DOG, What We Found Out There and The Sidney Barber Tapes on YouTube. I also recommend Archive 81, The Blair Witch Project and The Taking of Deborah Logan for amazing found footage horror TV shows or films!

4. Cosmic Horror

Cosmic horror or Lovecraftian horror highlights the terror of the unknown and incomprehensible. I recommend The Sky, The God Man and quiet apocalypse on YouTube, they're all incredible cosmic horror short films. I recommend Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Mist as some perfect cosmic horror films.

5. Slasher Horror

Slasher horror is iconic, especially in the spooky season. I recommend Seclusion, HUSKS and Murder Camp on YouTube. I also recommend Psycho, Scream and Halloween as some perfect Halloween slasher films.

With the return of Autumn comes for many the return of school life and the boringness that comes with school. 1. Read a book! The more dark academia or spooky the better!
