16 Films To Watch Before You Turn 16
1. The Perks of Being A Wallflower (2012)
As someone who is currently a teenager, to me, this film perfectly sums up the teenage experience, with some added depression. This beautiful film was introduced to me by a friend and I both hate them and love them for it, so you're welcome and I'm sorry.
2. Dead Poets Society (1989)
Again, teenage experience with some added depression and Robin Williams. If you like a bit of comedy with dark academia vibes alongside desire to follow your dreams, then this is the film for you.
3. La La Land (2016)
This film is my all-time favourite. It perfectly encapsulates my love for filmmaking as well as being a beautiful movie-musical filled with colour and infinite deeper meanings. I love how it also shows the truth of love and fate.
4. Breakfast Club (1985)
This feel good film set in one day is a joyful yet touching film about connection and the teenage experience. Though, on the surface it may seem pointless this iconic film personally connects to me on a deeper level, putting into words something I could never describe.
5. 500 Days of Summer (2009)
An iconic love story that connects to so many on a deeper level. It shows us that we aren't alone and to enjoy things while they last.
6. This Beautiful Fantastic (2016)
Another stunning film introduced to me by a friend (a different one though), this film is charming, funny, relatable and heart warming. I recommend this as a feel good film, that will lift your spirits, although maybe not the ending.
7. Fight Club (1999)
I'm going to break a rule by talking about this, but this film is incredible, full of top-tier acting, amazing costumes, iconic casts and even more iconic scenes, and topped off with a surprising ending.
8. Lady Bird (2017)
This coming-of-age film directed by the incredible Greta Gerwig (director of Barbie) is a stunning reflection on the importance of connection and caring for your loved ones. The all-star cast did an incredible job at portraying this amazing story.
9. Beautiful Boy (2018)
A very sad, yet important one is this. This story features an all-star cast once again who explore the serious topic of drug use and addiction in a heartfelt story about a father and son.
10. Ferris Buellers Day Off (1986)
This joyful movie is an incredible story about living life and having fun. Ridden with fourth wall breaks and comedic scenes, this feel good film is a must watch for all teenagers.
11. Aftersun (2022)
This heartfelt father and daughter movie, touches on connection, relationships and depression. It is a beautiful film filled with metaphors and deeper meanings, guaranteed to leave you thinking about it for days.
12. Soul (2020)
Another follow your dreams type film, the animated Pixar film follows a music teacher who dreams of being a professional jazz musician. Though before he could achieve that dream he dies, where he meets 22 and form an unusual bond.
13. Mamma Mia (1 and 2) (2008 and 2018)
A classic. I fear I don't have to explain this. Another feel good movie with music that will be stuck in your head for days.
14. Baby Driver (2017)
Another film with great music, this action packed film is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat while trying not to dance along to the great hits that play during the exciting get away scenes.
15. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
This romantic action comedy film based on the graphic novel of the same name is an amazing film that I'm certain you will love. Its funny, unique and has a great cast who certainly do not disappoint.
16. Good Will Hunting (1997)
The final film on this list is a sad one. This touching film reflects on choice, connection and the brutality of life. Another film with an all-star cast which does not disappoint and fill their roles immaculately.
